The Prince and the Dybbuk dir. Elwira Niewiera, Piotr Rosołowski, Germany/Poland, 2017, 82 min

Elwira Niewiera is a filmmaker, living and working in Berlin. Her last feature documentary Domino Effect was shown at more than 50 international festivals and won many awards, including the Golden Horn Award for Best Film at the Krakow Film Festival. The film was distributed in Germany, Poland and Switzerland. Elwira is a member of the Polish Film Academy.
As a Hollywood producer, Polish-born Michal Waszynski excelled in creating magical worlds and characters. His biggest creation, however, was his own persona: born into a poor Jewish family he changed his name and religion in order to be accepted into Italian society’s upper echelons. Winner of the 2017 Venice Classics Award for Best Documentary, The Prince and the Dybbuk explores a cinematic enigma while celebrating the thrilling times of the golden era of Hollywood and Rome’s La Dolce Vita.

Winner – Venice Classics Award, Best Documentary on Cinema, Venice Film Festival

“With a tinge of humor, Niewiera and Rosołowski create a portrait of a fascinating life, driven by personal ambitions but also agitated by fears, society’s pressures and demands.” Polish Film
