‘The famous Bulgarian actress and  host of the TV show “Night birds” Iskra Angelova will be a special guest of BCI London with screening of her documentary film “Who’s Afraid of Julia Krusteva?”.

Discussion with the author after the screening.

Iskra Angelova’s film ‘Who’s Afraid of Julia Kristeva? ‘  is a 85 minutes long film tells the story of one of the most successful, world-famous Bulgarians – a psychoanalyst, linguist, semiotician and philosopher, Julia Kristeva is a scientist, writer and feminist, but most of all – her interesting, unusual and beautiful mind continues to amaze today.

SYNOPSIS:
1966
. Bulgaria is still behind the Iron Curtain. Young and smart student Julia Kristeva goes to Paris on a scholarship from the French government. There she encounters the cream of French intelligentsia, where she meets the leader of the Tel Quel movement – Philippe Sollers. The two instantly fall in love and marry. France welcomes with open arms the young Bulgarian’s ideas, that are influenced by Russian structuralists and formalists. She begins to work with Claude Lévi-Strauss, Michelle Foucault, Jacques Derrida, Lucien Goldmann, Roland Barthes and Jacques Lacan….’ (BCI)
