‘Young Czech artist Viktorie Langer, nominated for the 2017 Jindřich Chalupecký Award, will be the first in a series of emerging artists and designers showcasing their work in the new Czech Centre Window Gallery.
Langer (*1988) is primarily a painter, while also working in the media of collage, drawing, textiles and ceramics. Her striking large-sized canvases are clearly inspired by early 20th century art, rather than current trends. Yet the almost abstract work of Langer uses a very contemporary language and has a well- established signature style.
Viktorie graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (Painting Studio II/Vladimír Skrepl School). She went on a study stay at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Universidad Complutense in Madrid and spent two semesters at the studios of visiting professors Florian Pumhösel and Silke Otto Knapp at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. The artist has introduced her work primarily in the context of the Czech independent art scene, however, she has also exhibited her work at the National Gallery in Prague and at the Sør-Troms Museum in Trastad, Norway. She is represented by the Zahorian & Van Espen gallery.
