Czech artist Pavel Příkaský partners with London based Miroslava Večeřová for this site-specific gallery intervention combining painting, installation and video.
Miroslava and Pavel have worked together as a collaborative duo for the past four years. Synthetically they combine the starting points of their individual approaches. Painting and drawing is at the heart of Pavel’s individual practice. Miroslava works with video, photography and sculptural interventions. What connects their works are the specific installation strategies and small steps from flat image to spatial object. In their mutual affectation, materials and their surfaces explode with gradual, almost alchemic changes in their meaning. Making everything by hand to achieve an effect has become an important aspect of their practice. Relief – their first solo show in London – invites viewers into a sphere of corporeality. The intuitive, fluid installation is basically framed by the medium of painting. Medium of painting is “infecting” the character of the work´s photographic element, the nature of installation in space, to evolve into what can be regarded as a living, performing corporeal entity. It becomes a device in the process of exploring a pre-conceptual world, a way of inducing feelings, an endeavour to make real the sensation of touch: it is something that relates the cognitive body with the irrational aspect of its existence.
Their work has been exhibited in solo shows and group shows in the Czech Republic and abroad (London, Moscow, Berlin, etc.).
Pavel Příkaský (*1985)
Pavel studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague in Vladimir Kokolia´s studio. He currently Lives and works in Prague. He mainly uses the medium of painting, which he blurs and obscures its boundaries using specific installation strategies, sculptural interventions and small steps from flat image to spatial object.
Miroslava Večeřová (*1985)
Miroslava studied photography at the University of the Arts in London and later at Prague´s Academy of Art, Architecture and Design (Hynek Alt´s and Aleksandra Vajd´s studio). She lives and works in both Prague and London. Whilst still a student Miroslava Večeřová captured attention with her video in which she interrupts a long static shot with an unexpected physical gesture. Both images thus started to express not only something about each other but also about the material essence of something that, thanks to advances in digital technology, we have come to consider as intangible. Her more recent photographs and videos specifically deal with natural material, corporeality, and physical contact with the surface.
