Event Navigation

‘This unassuming, retiring young man is the most amazing musician, arguably the best tenor-player in his country. At least the doyen of Hungarian jazz, the great pianist Szakcsi called him that without hesitation. Having grown up in industrial North Hungary Zoltán was not spotted until 1999 when he won the saxophone competition organised by Hungarian Radio. He finished his studies at the world famous Ferenc Liszt Academy two years later. To begin with, living far from the capital where most of the action is, he was relatively rarely heard. Yet in 2001 he was invited to the Berklee School in Boston to take part in the meeting and course organised for the 100 most promising young musicians over the world. His performances in Boston qualified him for the European Youth Jazz Orchestra. He later made his mark with the Budapest Jazz Orchestra, the Daniel Szabó Quartet and the Equinox Quartet. One of the critics described Zoltan as “Hungary’s answer to Stan Getz”. Indeed, his beautiful, velvety tone, his flawless melodic sense, his lyricism and his ability to swing effortlessly justifies all the praise.’ (HCC)
